Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed on Tuesday begged Nigerians to imbibe the culture of supporting the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN), in the patriotic fight against terrorism, banditry and other criminality in country.

He also charged citizens to continue to embrace the requisite values and keenly exploit every medium that will help to foster unity in the nation.

The minister made this disclosure on Tuesday night, at the Seminal Premiere of the Eagle Wings motion picture in Abuja.

“Eagle Wings” is a story of the Nigerian Air Force that depicts various aspects of counter-insurgency operations, showing the resilience and dedication of officers and men towards ensuring peace and security in the face of recalcitrant and unrepentant terrorists.

The movie also explores the often tragic, yet thrilling mission in battling for Life, Peace, and Freedom to Love, in the face of great danger.

Mr. Mohammed encouraged the service to make use of the movie as a tool for creating awareness in the public about the critical roles of the Air Force in national security and nation building even as he said it is expected that the Armed Forces will leave no stone unturned in discharging its constitutional responsibilities and providing the necessary support to government in its quest to transform the country.

He said, “The movie we have just enjoyed vividly portrays how the Nigerian Air Force optimally leverages air capabilities and humanitarian efforts, with the available resources and manpower, to win hearts and minds in the overall national strategic approach to attaining victory in the war against terrorism and insurgency.

“I am highly impressed with the quality of production and the professional way in which the actors played their roles. I must say, that “Eagle Wings” has undoubtedly set a new standard for Nollywood, and would also project the image of the Nigerian Air Force far beyond the shores of our great nation, further boosting Nigeria’s international prestige.

“At this juncture let me commend the untiring efforts of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, whose commitment, diligence and strategic leadership have been outstanding and exemplary.

“I must make particular mention of his exceptional vision, especially in utilising the media space to enlighten citizens and other stakeholders about the valuable contributions of the Air Force to both internal security and off-shore Air Power projections in support of Nigeria’s national interests”.

Welcoming guests at the premiere of the motion picture, the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar said that it has always been his desire to see the Nigerian Air Force break new frontiers that would not only place the Service on the pedestal of landmark achievements but also set the pace for others to emulate its collective efforts at securing the nation.

He emphasized that the Motion Picture emphasizes the efficacy of Nigerian Air Force efforts beyond bombs and bullets, to win the hearts and minds of people in troubled areas.

He said “The Eagle Wings Motion Picture employs world-class cinematography to present a moving story which captures the crucial roles and efforts of the Nigerian Air Force in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North East.

“The idea of producing this motion picture was given consideration to avail the Nigerian public in particular and indeed, the world as a whole, with a fresh perspective to better appreciate the immeasurable sacrifices of our officers, airmen/airwomen and their families, towards bringing peace and security to our dear nation.

“I must therefore commend the collaboration of Nigerian Air Force Investments Limited and Messrs Papel Image Tech, as well as the tireless efforts of the Director of Public Relations and Information and the Nigerian Air Force Advisory Committee, to bring this amazing story to the big screen.

“This would go a long way to educate the Nigerian public and enlighten the global community, while chronicling the success stories of our gallant troops in order to forestall gaps in history,” he said.

He urged citizens to reflect on the noble sacrifices of fallen heroes who were specially honoured recently on the Armed Forces Remembrance Day.

The CAS reminded Nigerians that they all share a collective responsibility in ensuring the security of the country, towards improving the quality of life of its good people.

Earlier, the Chairman Air Force Investment Ltd Board of Directors, Air Vice Marshal CA Ogbeche said the premiere marks the culmination of an unprecedented partnership between Nigerian Air Force Investments Limited and Papel Image Tech Limited, to bring to life an epic tale of the fight for Life, Peace and Love of our great nation.
