Police Smash Kidnapping Syndicate, Arrest 12 suspects terrorizing Abuja residents, rescue 3 victims

The Police in the FCT has arrested a gang of 12 kidnappers terrorizing residents of Abuja particularly inhabitants of Bwari, Abaji and Kwali after a shootout, after which three kidnap victims were rescued.

It would be recalled that these districts which are all exits and entry points into and out of Abuja witness a lot of movement of travellers hence these kidnappers have also attacked and abducted several travellers for ransom.

FCT Police Commissioner, CP Bala Ciroma who made the disclosure at the Command headquarters, also stated that Police operatives of Anti-Kidnapping Squad deployed for the operation, also dismantled some hideouts used by the kidnapping syndicate in the areas.

The suspects arrested are Yau Tukur 30 years, Bello Bature 20 years, Emmanuel Peter 38 years, Ali Ibrahim 20 years, Isiya Abdullahi, Buhari Haruna 18 years, Ahmadu Dahe, Bature Adamu 28 years, Yahaya Ibrahim 20 years, Mohammed Danni 41 years, Sidi Ardo 52 years and Ibrahim Isa 25 years.

Exhibits recovered from the suspects include 17 rounds of live ammunition, 4 Dane guns, one locally made pistol, 4 mobile phones, 2 military camouflage uniforms and caps, one Bajaj motorcycle, 5 voters card and 2 sim packs and cards.

Similarly, the CP noted that “On the 23rd May, 2020, operatives of the Command Anti- Kidnapping Squad stormed a kidnappers hideout located at Gudu mountain in Kwali and rescued four victims that were held hostage.

“The victims were rescued from the camp after a shootout between the Police and the kidnappers, with the Police eventually overpowering them and the kidnappers abandoning their victims.

“The camp was dislodged in the course of the fierce encounter and some of the suspects escaped the scene with bullet injuries” the CP said, adding ” The command is still on trail of the suspects.

“Also, on the 25 May 2020, Police operatives from Kwali division, in conjunction with local vigilantes group rescued 3 person’s who were kidnapped from Dadu village in Kwali. The victims were rescued from Dadu forest, where they were kept as hostage.

“The Swift response of the Police operatives led to the rescue of the victim’s and dismantling of the kidnappers base.

Noting that efforts are in place to arrest the fleeing suspects, Ciroma said items recovered at the dislodged hideout are me Dane gun, 31 SIM cards of different networks, one herders stick and the rope used in tying the victims.

The CP also disclosed that Police operatives arrested suspected rapists, drug dealers, child traffickers, fraudsters popularly known as Yahoo boys and a suspect who specializes in offering bribes to Police to enable child trafficking.
