Police kill armed robbery suspect, recover stolen cars after shootout in Aladja; Overpower Robbery/Kidnapping gang terrorizing Ughelli, Delta State, recover arms & ammunition

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command on Wednesday gunned down an armed robbery suspect who is a member of a gang that snatched two cars and inflicted gunshot wounds on the owners along the Onwian-Aladja road in Delta state.

Delta state Police Commissioner, Hafiz Inuwa who confirmed the incident, noted that during a shootout with the Police, other members of the gang escaped with bullet wounds and abandoned the snatched vehicles.

 The Police said, “On Wednesday 9, September 2020 at about 7.45pm, during a stop and search operation, around Express Junction, Onwian-Aladja, operatives encountered some armed robbers using a Lexus Jeep 360 earlier snatched around PEA Body hotel, from one Donald Chukwuebeze of NBTC, Onwian

“The armed robbers proceeded to attacking motorists and firing gunshots indiscriminately  while trying to snatch another vehicle from one Onyenma Okunma but were successfully repelled by the police.

“In the ensuing shootout, the police team gunned down one of the armed robbers while others escaped with bullet wounds.

“The victims of the indiscriminate shootings by the armed robbers who sustained gunshot injuries on their legs were rushed to the hospital in Warri.

Meanwhile, the Police recovered the two snatched cars, two live cartridges and two expended bullets from the scene

In another operation, in the early hours of Thursday 10th September 2020, at about 1.54 am, a group of armed robbers and kidnappers who had been terrorizing Ughelli and environs, were trailed by the Police to their Otujeremi hideout where they were arrested with arms and ammunition.

Giving details of the arrest, the Police said, “Acting on information, two notorious members of an armed robbery and kidnapping gang terrorizing Otujeremi, Ughelli and environs, one Stanley Samuel 22 years old and Zion John 21 years old, both of Ewu Community, Ughelli South LGA were arrested.

They were trailed to their hideout by Police operatives where a sack bag containing one double barrel gun, two single barrel guns and 38 rounds of live cartridges were found in possession of the suspects.

The Police added that investigation is still ongoing with a view to tracking and arresting other members of the gang.
