Following incessant attacks and alleged killings by Fulani herdsmen on indigenes of Ossissa Community and others in Kwale area of Delta State and war songs of reprisals on northerners by youths, Delta State Police Commissioner, Ibrahim Zanna has paid an operation visit to the community and held discussions with stakeholders.
A statement from the CP’s office giving details said, “On Friday 19th of May 2017, at about 3.30pm, Compol Ibrahim Zanna and other senior officers of the Delta state Command arrived Kwale Police station over the Ossissa/Herdsmen crisis.
“At the Kwale Police station, he held an interactive security meeting with stakeholders on the crisis and the Police Commissioner who initiated the meeting implored cooperation from the town and concerned individuals.
He solicited for timely and accurate information sharing and identification of flash points with a view to deploying police personnel to ensure that such attacks in future were nipped in the bud.
CP Zanna assured the community that as soon as the communiqué on the recent National Security Summit on herdsmen/farmers clashes is released by the Police High Command, its recommendation which will lead to checkmating such crisis as well as kidnapping and violent crimes would get utmost implementation.
Among stakeholders present at the meeting were DPO’s of Ashaka and Kwale, Ossissa Youth President, Ashubudike Chris, Vigilante Chairman, Richard Nweche and Chairman, Ndokwa East Local Government area, Nkechi Onuma Chukwura.
Nkechi Chukwura later apologized to the Police Commissioner over the unruly conduct of Ossissa people and their initial refusal to cooperate with the Police.
The LGA Chairman commended the Commissioner of Police for his undeterred personal efforts at fostering lasting peace in the face of hostilities and misconceptions which fuel the crisis.
The Chairman disclosed that an enlarged emergency meeting of clan heads, elders and youths of the community will be convened in the town to with a view to sensitizing all and sundry to attain peaceful co-existence.
