Ops Accord: Troops overpower bandits in 5 camps in Katsina Forests, kill many, arrest 21 bandits, rescue several kidnapped person’s.

Arrested Bandits

In continuation of the ongoing subsidiary Operation Accord aimed at curtailing the activities of bandits in Katsina and neighbouring states, troops of Operation Hadarin Daji have recorded tremendous successes in the North-West theatre of operations.

Consequently, following Artillery bombardment and other and ground Offensives, five of the bandits camps were destroyed and many of the bandits killed while several person’s held hostage in the camps were rescued.

Confirming the destruction of the camps, Coordinator, Defence Media Operations, Major General John Enenche said, “On 20 June 2020, troops conducted a robust clearance patrol to identified bandits’ major enclaves at Gobirawa and Bawa-Daji in Batsari LGA of Katsina State following actionable technical and human intelligence on the presence of bandits at the said locations.

Rescued Victims of bandits

“Troops made contact with a large number of bandits, but effectively overwhelmed them with an aggressive posture and superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their camps and flee in disarray.

“A follow-up exploitation operation in the general area indicated that several bandits were likely killed in the encounter as huge blood stains were visible along the bandits’ excape route.

“However, troops are currently in pursuit of the fleeing bandits.

“Additionally, troops destroyed 5 major bandits’ camps and recovered the following items: 4 empty magazines, 5 motorcycles, one bandolier and 2 pairs of military uniforms, amongst other items.

“Furthermore, 6 kidnap victims were rescued by troops while 21 suspected bandits’ collaborators were arrested during the operation.

“On same day 20 June 2020, troops also conducted an aggressive clearance operation to identified bandits’ enclaves at Biyaka, Randa, Ruma, Garin Inu, Shekewa, Gurbin Tsauni and Garin Buda villages, all in Batsari LGA.

“The gallant troops, cleared suspected bandits hideouts, neutralizing one bandit while several others fled with gunshot wounds. Troops recovered one dane gun and 4 mobile phones, amongst other items.

“In a related development, Nigerian Airforce helicopter gunships of the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji earlier on 19 June 2020, conducted precision airstrikes on identified bandits’ hideouts at Munhaye and Keta general area in Tsafe LGA of Zamfara state.

“The gunships recorded accurate hits on the bandits’ locations, neutralizing scores of bandits in the process while others fled into the surrouding bush.

“Ground troops in blocking position equally engaged the bandits, inflicting further casualty while several suspected rustled livestock were recovered from the surrounding area.

“The animals were subsequently handed over to appropriate quaters for identification and hand over to their owners.

“The Military High Command congratulates the land and air components of Operation Hadarin Daji or this notable feat and urges them to remain committed and sustain the onslaught against the criminals.”
