The new General Officer Commanding 6 division of the Iberian Army, Maj General Johnson Irefin has taken over command in Port Harcourt.
The handing and taking over of command took place on Friday between the outgoing GOC and Land Component Commander Operation Delta Safe, Major General Felix Agugo and Major General Irefin.
General Agugo is posted to Lagos as the Commander, Nigerian Army Signal Corps.
In his farewell address, the outgoing GOC applauded Commanders under him for their loyalty and cooperation during his tenure.
He thanked the troops of the Division for their commitment towards maintaining security, law and order in the Division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR) and charged them to accord the same support to his successor noting that the Niger Delta area is critical to the nation’s development.
He urged the officers and Soldiers of the Division to continue maintaining high level of discipline and professionalism in the discharged of their constitutional role.
Gen Agugo also commended the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. Gen Tukur Buratai for his dynamic and formidable leadership style whom he said he is emulating as his role model.
He encouraged the new GOC to build on the foundation he has laid.
In his speech, the new GOC thanked God for giving him the privilege to serve in 6 Division and also expressed his gratitude to the COAS for another opportunity to command 6 Division.
He solicited for cooperation and commitment from Commanders and troops of the Division to enable him succeed in his newly assigned tasks.
Highlight of the ceremony included the signing of the handing and taking over notes, handing over of the command flag by the outgoing GOC to his successor and inspection of Quarter Guard.
