As part of activities marking the Nigerian Army Day Celebration for year 2020, the Nigerian Army on Saturday 4th July, distributed palliatives including rice, Sanitizers and other essential items to more than 500 residents of Karshi, a district under the Abuja Municipal Council (AMAC).
Commander, Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General James Gwaza Khalifa Myam who distributed the items on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai disclosed that the Palliatives are meant to cushion the hardship and other challenges brought to bear on the people by the Covid 19 pandemic.
His words, “0n Monday, the Nigerian Army will mark 157 years of existence. The Nigerian Army is one of the key instruments of national power. To commemorate NADCEL this year, a series of activities have been ongoing across all military formations including commissioning of projects to improve welfare of personnel.
“Distribution of palliatives as directed by the Chief of Army Staff, is one of the key activities lined up by the Nigerian Army to celebrate NADCEL. This is because we are aware that we are in very trying times when the Covid 19 has caused several challenges for the society.
“The palliative is to be provided for the vulnerable, the poor and the needy. It is to ameliorate the situation and build good civil-military relations. It is being done as part of our corporate social responsibility and to cement our relationship with our host communities.
The Emir of Karshi, Alhaji Ismaila Mohammed, represented by the District Head of Karshi, Ahmed Donka expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army and the Garrison Commander for the peaceful co-existence and good civil relationship between the Army and residents of the FCT.
He appreciated the palliatives which he said will really alleviate the hardship currently being faced by the people.
Chairman of AMAC, Mr. Abdullahi Adamu Candido, who was represented by the Special Adviser, Political, Mr. Abubakar Aminu congratulated the Nigerian Army on the celebration of NADCEL 2020 and congratulated the Army for the giant contributions in tackling insecurity in the country.
He particularly appreciated the Army for choosing the Karshi community for the distribution of the palliatives.
