Following the lynching of one member of a two man gang who attempted to rob a victim in a Taxi at Wise area of Abuja by an angry mob and the beating almost to death of the second one chance robber by the mob, the Police in FCT has launched investigation into the incident.

The Police investigation followed a viral video of the incident and it’s conflicting narrative purporting that the two man gang were kidnappers who attempted to steal a child from the mother in the Taxi but were caught in the act when the mother of the child raised alarm.

However, the FCT Police Command in a statement said investigation has commenced even as it confirmed that one of the robbers was burnt to death by the mob while the other robber was beaten to stupor but is receiving treatment at the hospital.

ASP Yusuf Mariam, Police Public Relations Officer said, “The attention of the FCT Police Command has been drawn to the viral video of a mob action in the social media, suggesting that the persons being mobbed are ‘suspected kidnappers’ who abducted a woman and her child at Wuse 2, Abuja.

“However, Police Operatives from Wuse Division swiftly moved to the scene upon receiving the information.

“Unfortunately, due to mob action one of the suspects was burnt to death while the other suspect is currently receiving medical attention .

“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police CP. Bala Ciroma has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident and appeals to members of the public to shun jungle justice.
