Herdsmen Attack: Okowa Commends Army, Police For Restoring Peace To Uwheru Communities; 4 person’s allegedly killed.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state, on Sunday commended the Nigerian Army and the Police for their prompt intervention in the clash between suspected herdsmen and Uwheru communities in UghelliNorth Local Government Area.


The clashes between the communities and the herdsmen reported led to the death of four person’s and injury to several others.


A cording to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Olisa Ifeajika, the governor expressed gratitude for the peace that had been restored to the communities through the instrumentality of the security agencies.


He, however, said that he was saddened by reports of persons, including security agents, feared to have lost their lives.


Recall that on Saturday 15th February,  crisis and attacks broke out at Agadama, Avwon,  Ohoror, and other communities of Uwheru Kingdom of Ughelli North LGA in continuation of a dispute between herdsmen and the kingdoms.


The unrest was said to have started on Tuesday 13th February 2020 when some of the herdsmen suspected to have migrated from Ahoada in Rivers State, invaded farmlands with their cattle in Agadama and Uwheru kingdom.


The communities resisted the herdsmen invasion of the farmlands, resulting in violent clashes with 4 person’s said to have lost their lives.


However, Operatives of the Delta state Police Command from Ughelii Area and Divisional commands, quickly mobilized to the scene and were able to rescue one person with bullet injury and taken to hospital for treatment while bringing the situation to normalcy.


 Police personnel were however denied access to the corpses allegedly killed during the confrontation but it was later gathered that military personnel from Bomadi on patrol, had encounter with the aggrieved communities resulting in the killing of three person’s while two soldiers were injured during the crisis.
