The Police in Delta state on Friday foiled an attempt by three armed robbery/kidnap gang to unleash mayhem on Ubulu-Uku community with operatives of the Special Anti Robbery Squad engaging the gang in a shootout.
Commissioner of Police, Hafiz Inuuwa who confirmed the shootout said Police operatives shot one of the robbers on the hand resulting in the robbers abandoning him AK 47 rifle and escaping into the bush.
The Police said, “Following a tip off, that three suspected armed robbers and kidnappers terrorizing Ubulu-Uku community were sighted in the bush, SARS operatives mobilized to the bush for action.
“The operatives suddenly bumped on the armed men sitting under a tree and planning their attack
“On sighting the policemen, the hoodlums opened fire on the policemen while running in a bid to escape. The policemen promptly returned fire and went after them
“During the shootout, one of the hoodlums was shot in the hand and forced to abandon his AK 47 rifle, with 6 rounds of live ammunition which was recovered.
Though all the hoodlums escaped, the police has commenced a manhunt for the gang with CP Hafiz vowing that they will be apprehended in the too distant future.
