Delta Police recover 6 rifles procured for criminal elements in a church, arrest Pastor.

Following proactive measures embarked upon by the Delta State Police Command to arrest the criminal elements and contain criminality,, operatives of the command have arrested a Pastor and recovered six rifles from his church.

Sources revealed that the rifles are usually hired to criminal gangs to perpetrate armed robbery and kidnapping activities particularly in Asaba, Agbor and Environs after which the guns will be returned and hidden in the church.

Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Hafiz Inuwa who confirmed the rarrest of the Pastor and recovery of the dangerous weapons, said, “On Tuesday 22nd of June 2020, at about 6pm, as part of the commands proactive efforts at nipping crime in the bud, operatives swung into action and trailed a arms Depot ring.

 “The arms Depot was discovered following information about criminal activities of some hoodlums at Barrow Pit Okwe, by Christ Holy Church Camp ground, Okwe Asaba.

“Based on the information, a team of policemen stormed the area and recovered six pump action guns in an uncompleted building within the churvh premises.

 “As a result, one Freeman was arrested and taken to the station. Investigation also led to the arrest of the resident pastor of the church who confessed that the recovered prohibited firearms belonged to the Anambra Vigilantes group.

The pastor claimed that the firearms were brought into Delta state for the purpose of providing security for the church. The police is however investigating the claim.
