Delta Police Command foil robbery at Obiaruku; kill armed robbery suspect in shootout, recover arm

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command, in the early hours of Wednesday 8 March 2020, foiled an attempt by dare devil armed robbers to invade an estate in Obiaruku, killing one of the robbers during exchange of gun fire.

Confirming the development Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Hafiz Inuwa said the incident happened at Asalam Okuzu Quarters, noting that Police operatives recovered a locally made gun and two cartridges.

The Police Command said, “At about 02.30hrs,  following a distress call from Asalam Quarters at Okuzu, Obiaruku, that armed robbers were operating, a patrol team was immediately despatched to the area.

“On sighting the police patrol team approaching, the armed robbers opened fire on the police operatives.

“The Patrol team consequently engaged the hoodlums in a shootout resulting in the killing of one of the robbers while others escaped.

After foiling the robbery, one locally made gun, cut to size, two live cartridges, three expended cartridges and two techno mobile phones were recovered at the scene.

The police added that efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang even as investigation is ongoing.
