The Police in Delta state on Tuesday, 30th of June 2020 arrested two suspects along the Asaba-Onitsha highway while they were transporting 30 bags of dried leaves (Indian Hemp) with siren in a jeep.
Confirming the arrests, Commissioner of Police, CP Hafiz Inuwa said a Toyota Tundra Jeep which the suspects used in moving the Indian Hemp, and the exhibits have been recovered by the police.
The CP said, “On 30th June 2020, at about 4pm, a Police Patrol team while on Stop and Search operation along Asaba-Onitsha Expressway, by Cooker, intercepted a black colour Toyota Tundra vehicle.
“The vehicle with registration no Abuja ABC 550 CP was driven by one Ayo Balogun 34 years old, of Abbi in company of one Abanum Ifeanyi aged 28 years also of Abbi.
“The vehicle was with a revolving light and using siren in a suspicious manner. When searched, 30 bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp were found neatly wrapped and concealed at the back of the vehicle.
“The suspects were also found in possession of military jungle hat and claimed to have brought the exhibits from Abbi to be delivered at Onitsha.
Meanwhile, the arrested suspects and the vehicle which was recovered with the bags of Indian hemp and jungle hat have been detained and further investigation is ongoing.
