The Nigerian Army has noted that its free medical outreach programme slated for Igbo-Etche Community in Etche, Rivers State, went on smoothly with hundreds of citizens in the community participating in-spite of efforts by rumour mongers to discredit the outreach.
According to a statement entitled ‘6 Division Medical Outreach-A Success Story’ signed by Brigadier General Sani Usman, “Over 1700 residents were diagnosed, treated and administered with drugs depending on their ailments”.
This success is coming against the backdrop of wild and unjustifiable allegations that persons in military uniforms have been going around secondary and primary schools forcefully injecting students with monkey pox vaccines with a view to reducing the population in the South-South and South-East.
The statement reads, “Despite the futile attempt by rumour mongers about the well-intended gesture of the Nigerian Army to scare genuine beneficiaries of the exercise, the 6 Division went ahead and proved critics wrong.
“At Thursday’s medical outreach at Igbo Etche community in Etche LGA of Rivers States, hundreds of residents trooped to the venue to benefit from the exercise.
“Over 1700 residents were diagnosed, treated and administered with drugs depending on their ailments.
“There was also distribution of treated mosquito nets to nursing mothers and pregnant women.
“One particular case is that of an old woman in her 80s, (Mrs. Margaret Okere) who has lost her sights for a long time, was brought to the venue by her grandson.
“After careful examination and administration of requisite eye drops and eye glasses, Mrs. Okere regained her sight and that sent jubilation among the crowd.
