The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen TY Buratai has congratulated and commended the Commander, Officers and all the gallant troops of the Nigerian Army 4 Special Forces Command, Doma, Nasarawa State.
This followed the successful clearance operations against Darul Salam terrorists from the camps in Kogi and Nasarawa states and the rescue of over 700 abducted families and other person’s by soldiers,
The COAS acknowledged their gallantry and patriotism which he said manifested in the destruction of Darul Salam/Boko Haram terrorists’ Camps in the two states.
Gen Buratai further applauded the hardwork and resilience of the troops, and the supports of the Nigerian Navy and Airforce as well that of other security agencies that led to the destruction of the terrorists’ camps as well as their hideouts in Kogi and Nasarawa States thereby neutralizing several Boko Haram and Darusalam terrorists while rescuing over 700 family members and abductees.
While commending them for the resounding successes, Buratai further charged them to never allow criminals any insurgents, a foothold in the whole of the North Central Zone.
He urged them to continue dominating the area and maintain high standard of professionalism and to ensure the terrorists are never given breathing space or freedom of action in the discharge of their legitimate duties.
A statement by Col Sagir Musa, Acting Director, Army Public Relations quoted the COAS assuring the troops of his continous support to enable them continue the good work as directed by the President Commander in Chief, President Muhammadu Buhari.
Recall that motorists plying the Abuja/Lokoja highway had fallen victims several criminal attacks from suspected members of these groups.
The deadly blow dealt to the kidnappers and criminal elements that have been terrorizing travelers on that axis for sometime now is seen as a big relief to travellers.
A statement by the Kogi state government while confirming the successful clearance operation noted that men of the Nigerian Army from the 177 Battalion and the Army Records Lokoja with supports from local vigilantes cleared the camp of Darusalam, a terror group that has been carrying out its heinous operations on the border between Kogi and Nasarawa States for over eight years.
“Darusallam camp which is located at Ittu comprises over 2,000 kidnappers, bandits and Boko Haram elements that have been responsible for most of the kidnappings and criminal activities perpetrated along the Abuja-Lokoja highway”, the statement said.
“One of the suspects was shot dead while attempting to escape during the military clearing operations.The logistics supports of the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello to the Nigerian Army helped in no small measure in the success recorded by men of the Nigerian Army in this latest operation”, the statement said.
“Between last Saturday and Wednesday about 100 persons mostly women and children were rescued and taken to Lafia while on Sunday at Achara in Tawari Ward of Kogi LGA, about 180 family members of Darusalam were captured.
