Buratai commissions NAIC officers transit camp in Abuja; Harps on importance of  Intelligence to successful operations.

The Chief Of Army Staff(COAS), Lieutenant General Tukur  Yusuf Buratai, on Wednesday commissioned the newly reconstructed Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps (NAIC), officers transit accommodation in Abuja.

The officers’ transit quarters located at Camp Bassey barracks, Asokoro, has a total of 42 flats and additional two-bedroom flats for the Chief of Staff of NAIC.

Speaking at the occasion, Gen Buratai said, ‘”Since I assumed command as the COAS, I have made deliberate efforts to enhance both operational capabilities and welfare of the Nigerian Armh. This I have strived to achieve through implementation of innovative strategies to ensure that the Nigerian Army, in its operational posture is always ahead of the adversary in the complex and ever dynamic asymmetric threat environment.

“To this end, I have also made deliberate efforts to uplift the welfare and administrative standards of NA personnel and formations respectively through construction of infrastructures and overhauling of existing ones to meet international standards.

“It is worthy to mention that in December 2018, I commissioned the new HQ Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps (NAIC) Complex and recently an annex complex building to house NAIC supported units.

“The new NAIC Officers’ Transit Accommodation I am commissioning today, is also one of such projects.
“Let me state categorically that it is not coincidental that I have made conscious effort to ensure the general upliftment of the NAIC. This is given the primacy of intelligence in combating contemporary asymmetric threats to national security.

“This is in addition to the fact that I am an honorary member of the NAIC family. I am of the firm belief that a well-equipped and administered NAIC that functions optimally will have a force multiplier effect on kinetic operations across the country.

“As you are aware, accommodation continue to remain a challenge particularly in Abuja. It is against this backdrop that I hereby assure all seated here today (Wednesday) that as long as I am the COAS I would continue to sustain the welfare of officers and men, particularly as it affects accommodation and other welfare facilities across Nigerian Army facilities to enhance productivity of officers and men.

“Generally, given the resources available to NAIC, I want to observe that the corps has been proactive in providing timely and accurate intelligence in support of on-going military operations.  I want to therefore seize this opportunity to enjoin all officers and soldiers of the corps to reinvigorate their collection efforts to ensure the army effectively combat the myriads of asymmetric threats to our collective existence as a nation.

Noting that he was impressed with the level of solidarity shown by former DMI’s and other senior retired NAIC personnel at the occasion,Gen Buratai said, ‘Your turnout for this commissioning ceremony is very commendable just like during the commissioning ceremony of the new HQ NAIC Complex in December 2018 and the annex building in August last year.

“I would like to therefore enjoin all our retired senior colleagues to please always oblige us with their wealth of experience and also alert us whenever they observe security lapses or have useful information. I therefore acknowledge the presence of our esteemed senior retired colleagues and also thank them for finding time to grace this occasion.  Thank you all for your presence”.

“Finally, let me once again express our sincere appreciation and unalloyed loyalty to the President C-in-C of the Armed Forces, President Muhammed Buhari for his tireless support and guidance to the Nigerian Army.  The Nigeria Army shall continue to focus its energy and resources in ensuring that we actualize Mr President’s commitment to secure the lives and properties of Nigerians.”
