The Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) Nigeria has celebrated Exercise Africa Day 2020 at the Air Vice Marshal AO Ogundana Officers’ Mess Jaji Nigeria.
The Exercise which took place on Saturday, June 20, is part of the AFCSC’s activities for Senior Course (SC) curriculum, aimed at observing the Africa Day Celebration.
According to the Commandant AFCSC, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Sadiq Liman, the Celebration, which is an annual event, commemorates the historical formation of the African Union (formerly Organization of African Unity) on 25 May 1963 and is celebrated in various countries on the African continent as well as around the world in an auspicious style.
A statement by Major Ajemasu Jingina, Public Relations Officer of Command and Staff College, “The Celebration is embedded into a training module as International Day”.
“This year’s celebration was conducted in 2 phases. The first phase of the Exercise commenced on 16 June 2020 with a lecture titled: “Africa: Silencing the Gun, the Political Economy of Unfinished Liberation Struggles”.
“This was followed by various country briefs of our International students in the Second Phase, comprising 12 groups representing 10 African countries as well as Northern and Southern Nigeria.
“The African countries that participated were the Gambia, South Africa, Niger, Ghana, and Rwanda. Others are Botswana, Benin Republic, Togo, Sierra Leone, and Chad.
“The Second Phase of the Exercise also climaxed activities for the Exercise AFRICA DAY 2020 for SC 42”.
Major Jingina disclosed that, “During the phase, various groups showcased their cuisine, dressing, artifacts and other cultural identities of Africa and most especially those of our international students and some cultural groups in Nigeria”.
“The grouping triggered healthy competition and added glamour to the whole event.
Aside the Commandant, AFCSC, AVM Liman, other guest who witnessed the event were the College Committee members.
The Commandant, College Committee members and other invited spectators were conducted round the Display Stands of the participating groups.
At the end of the event, the students were provided with the opportunity to objectively showcase and promote their culture and socio-economic heritage to the College community at large.
