Before moving to the Commission headquarters, the protesters arrived the Force headquarters vicinity carrying placards and demanding that the IGP remove the Edo Police Commissioner whose tenure they claimed has witnessed high rate of kidnapping, armed robbery and killings of innocent citizens without arrest of perpetrators.
A statement signed by Ikechukwu Ani, spokesman of PSC said, “Mr. Istifanus said the Commission has received several complaints and petitions against some Commissioners of Police who are allegedly going against laid down rules and regulations.
“He noted that the Commission will take serious action against any of the CPs found to have compromised his office.
According to him, “The Commission takes very seriously issues of abuse of office especially from State Cps which he said can lead to anarchy, stressing that the complaint from the Edo group will be expeditiously handled.
“We will not allow anarchy in Edo State; we will immediately look into this complaint and take a decision on it”.
Mr. Istifanus however called on the group to remain calm and lawful and allow the Commission to do the needful, promising that the issues raised in their petition will be addressed.
Earlier, the leader of the group, Hon. Henry Okpeme had complained of the collapse of security in Edo State, mentioning the alarming increase in high profile assassinations, kidnapping and rape.
He observed that the present CP appeared to have been overwhelmed or compromised and should be redeployed in the interest of the people of Edo State.
