The Zone 5 Command of the Nigerian Police, Benin; has attributed its emergence as the most peaceful and secured zone in the country to the robust anti-crime strategies and control put in place which has yielded exceeding results.
In this regard, the AIG in charge of the zone, Mohammed Adamu Lafia has given thumbs up to the good people of Bayelsa, Edo and Delta States for their cooperation describing them as “Our esteemed strategic partners in crime prevention and control for the kind support and cooperation in crime prevention in 2016 which in no small measure made our success in terms of protection of lives and property distinct”.
In a statement by DSP Emeka Iheanacho, PRO Zone 5, the AIG said, “We appreciate you and do hope that this synergy and mutual collaboration would be sustained in 2017.
He reiterated the ban on use of fireworks in states of the zone saying “residents of Bayelsa, Edo and Delta states should note that the use of fireworks during the Christmas and New Year festivities are hereby banned”.
“Therefore the zone appeals to parents and guardians, traditional and religious leaders to warn their children, wards to refrain from use of fireworks during the period as anyone caught will be prosecuted.
“We also wish to assure the general public and residents within the zone that adequate security arrangement has been made at all strategic locations across the states in the zone to guarantee security of lives and property through the yuletide.
“Members of the public are to note that enough human and material resources have been deployed to all strategic locations such as recreation centers, churches mosques, cinema halls, radio/TV stations, motor parks, hotels to beef up security.
The AIG continued, “On the other hand, motorists are advised to cooperate with officers and men deployed for traffic control duties in and around states within the zone to ease traffic congestion along the major cities and highways.
“The zone at this juncture wishes to appeal to traditional and religious leaders to warn their youth who intend to disrupt the free flow of traffic or breach public peace in the guise of celebrating cultural festivals or carnivals to mark the yuletide, that this will not be tolerated, hence anyone caught violating this order will be arrested and prosecuted.
“The zone however advices the general public to be security conscious at all times particularly during the yuletide and report any suspicious person or movement to the nearest police station.”
