Troops of 159 Battalion, Forward Operational Base (FOB), Sector 2, Operation Lafiya Dole deployed at Kanama, Yunusari Local Government Area of Yobe state, on Monday evening thwarted Boko Haram terrorists attempted incursion into the border town of Kanama.
The terrorists came in at about 5:30pm and started shooting sporadically. The vigilant troops of the FOB engaged them.
Consequently, the terrorists were overwhelmed by the superior fire power of the gallant troops of 159 Battalion and the well coordinated air support from the Air Component of Operation Lafiya Dole.
This resulted in inflicting casualty on the terrorists, while some of them retreated with gunshot wounds.
The resilient troops have embarked on hot pursuit of the fleeing surviving attackers towards the border with Niger Republic.
Unfortunately two of our gallant soldiers sustained injuries, but they are in stable condition and receiving medical attention.
Further details of the casualties on the terrorists and recoveries would be provided on completion of the mop up and pursuit operations.
Meanwhile the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General TY Buratai, on Monday 4th February 2019, commissioned 40 room self-contained, apartments at Mambila barracks for National Youth Corpers posted to Army Headquarters and other units of the Nigerian Army within Abuja.
The COAS while commissioning the project congratulated the Corpers and charged them to imbibe good maintenance culture for the accommodation to last long.
While giving the vote of thanks the visibly elated Corpers Liaison Officer, Mr Usiobaho Prince, thanked the Chief of Army Staff for saving them from accommodation challenges.
According him, many of them spend hours and money from far places like Kuje, Masaka, Kurudu, and Bwari to come to work at the Army Headquarters and other units within Abuja.
It could be recalled that Corpers posted to Army Headquarters suffer acute shortage of accommodation before the Chief of Army Staff decided to ameliorate the problem after the Commander Army Headquarters Garrison, Major General JGK Myam made a presentation to him on the plight of Corpers serving under Army Headquarters.
