Security Challenges: Gombe Governor visits Army Chief, seeks Nigerian Army support

Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya has solicited for the support of the Nigerian Army (NA) in fighting drug traffickers and other sundry crimes in the state.

The governor made the plea on Friday 11 June 2021 during his courtesy visit to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Farouk Yahaya at the Army Headquarters Abuja.

Congratulating the COAS on his appointment, the governor said the nation is passing through many security challenges and Gombe State being a central state needed the cooperation and assistance of the NA and other security agencies in maintaining relative peace being enjoyed in the state.

Yahaya informed the COAS that the state borders many states and has been a home for individuals who fled crisis from neighbouring states and called for constant engagement of the NA.

He pointed out that in the spirit of supporting the Nigerian Army, Gombe State Government sacrificed its NYSC permanent Orientation Camp for use as a rehabilitation centre for repentant Boko Haram insurgents.

He said his administration will continue to support the Nigerian Army in carrying out its constitutional mandate of maintaining peace and protecting the nation’s territorial integrity.

He noted that the quality and capacity of the NA has shown that it has all vigour if given necessary support to secure the nation adding that the NAF Air base 3 in the state is also contributing its quarter and supporting the military in fighting insurgents.

The Governor also condoled with the NA and the nation on the demise of the Late COAS and 10 others who died in the plane mishap in Kaduna State.

In his remaks, the COAS, Maj Gen Faruk Yahaya thanked the Governor of Gombe State for its re-location and construction of 301 Artillery Regiment despite the economy challenges.

He promised that NA will not relent in its support to Gombe State for peace and tranquility to thrive.
