Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru on Wednesday disclosed that the Nigerian Army has achieved commendable successes in the war against insurgency and banditry in the country noting that as a result, normalcy was being restored at a lot of troubled areas.
He stated however stated that though there were still areas that call for commitment and concerted efforts towards arresting the security challenges, “the Nigerian Army under my leadership will continue to give maximum efforts towards tackling these challenges confronting the country.
The COAS who was speaking when the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence, Mr. Musa Istifanus paid a maiden familiarization visit to Army headquarters, assured that the Army would work in synergy with the ministry towards achieving the mandate which is to ensure peace and security of the nation.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary said he was at Army headquarters to congratulate the Chief of Army Staff on his appointment noting that “the ministry and staff wish you well and we intend to support you 100 per cent”.
“I intend to ensure we give you maximum cooperation, to ensure that you bring peace to Nigeria. We want to thank the Nigerian Army for the sacrifices of the men and officers are making to ensure that we can go about our daily activities”.
Mr. Istifanus added that, “If not for the sacrifices and counter operations of the Nigerian Army, a lot of Nigerians will find it difficult moving and traveling from one place to another, even going to the villages because of the fear of kidnapping”.
He therefore expressed confidence in the ability of the
Nigerian Army under Lt. Gen Attahiru to return sanity to troubled spots in the country.
Also present at the visit were the Chief of Policy and Plans, Major General BI Ahanotu, Chief of Administration, Major General AM Aliyu, Chief of accounts and Budget, Major General KI Yusuf, and Chief of Logistics, Major General AA Jidda.
Others are Chief of Standards and Evaluation, Major General Vintinaba, military Secretary ‘Army’, Major General Ochigbano, Director of Plans, Major General Ofoche, Acting Chief of Military Intelligence, Brigadier General Kuliya and Provost Marshal, Army, Brigadier General Olayinka, and the Director Army Public Relations, Brig General Mohammed Yerima.
