President Muhammadu Buhari is to induct three newly acquired multi-role fighter aircraft, the JF 17 Thunder attack Jets recently acquired to boost the air power capability of the Nigerian Air Force in the fight against Banditry, insurgency and kidnapping among other security agencies.
Making this known at a media briefing to flag off the Nigerian Air Force 57th anniversary celebration on Friday, Chairman of the organizing committee, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Abubakar said the fighter aircraft which are very highly advanced will be the latest addition to NAF inventory noting that in the last five years, a total of 25 new aircraft types have been inducted into the NAF.
AVM Abubakar said the 57th anniversary celebration which is holding at NAF base Markudi, Benue State, has as it’s theme, “Effective Joint Operations in Response to Contemporary National Security Challenges’ and it aims at emphasizing the renewed focus on cooperation and collaboration among the services in military operations.
“It is also in Tandem with the Chief of Air Staffvision, which is ‘to enhance and sustain critical airpower capabilities required for joint employment in pursuit of national security imperatives’.
While noting that the anniversary will be low-keyed in line with the current Covid-19 pandemic protocols, the Chairman said the event is structured to enlighten Nigerians of NAF’s efforts in the fight against insurgency, terrorism and armed Banditry in the country.
“It will therefore feature only 3 main activities namely a seminar, induction of a new platform as well as serial display of L-39ZA, Alpha-Jet and JF -17 Thunder Aircraft”, he said.
Disclosing that there will be pre-event activities including Juma’at and Church services simultaneously across the country, AVM Abubakar said, “There will also be medical out reaches to host communities of various NAF bases”.
“Furthermore, the Nigerian Air Force Offices Wives Association will embark on Humanitarian support activities across the 6 geo politician zones of the country.
“One unique activity that will be carried out during the Anniversary is the launching of the NAF Tele-medicine facility in Abuja”.
Abubakar added that, “The aim of Establishing the facility is to enhance provision of excellent medicare to personnel and their dependants ase well ase civilian beneficiaries at the lowest possible coat. This event is scheduled to take place at NAF base, Asokoro in Thesday, 18 May 2021.
He stated that, “The focus of the seminar is to proffer workable strategies aimed at checkmating the myriad of security challenges in the country.
He added the “The induction of the JF-17 Thunder aircraft and aerial display would be conducted simultaneously on 20 May 2021 and will mark end of the 57th Anniversary celebration.”
