Senator Shehu Sani, the former Senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial zone, has disclosed that he and several passengers escaped bandits’ explosives planted on the Abuja-Kaduna rail line which destroyed the windshield of the driver’s and engine compartment of the train.
Sani stated this in a tweet via his verified handle on Thursday, saying that it “took a miracle” for him and other passengers on the train to escape.
He also said that bandits’ shot at the train on Wednesday in a separate attack.
Sani tweeted, “Yester night, bandits attacked the Kaduna-Abuja train. They planted an explosive that damaged the rail track and shattered the windshield of the train engine.
“They also opened fire, targeting the driver and the tank. It happened between Dutse and Rijana stations. The driver struggled to move towards Kaduna Rigasa station.
“This early morning, I was on board when our train ran over other explosive damaging railings. The train nearly skids off its path then we miraculously escaped”
“All Kaduna-Abuja train operations need to be suspended for today until this matter is addressed,
Meanwhile, another facebook post by one Garba Muhammad who claimed to be on the train stated that it only developed a fault, leaving passengers stranded for six hours.
“It is 1:46 am, train approaching Rigasa, after over six hours in the train from Abuja-Kaduna that developed fault about 40km to KD.
“One needs to be in the train to appreciate the panic, stress, anxiety, and hunger,” Muhammad said.
