New President of the Naval Officers Wives Association (NOWA), Hajia Nana Aisha Gambo has taken over affairs of the association with a pledge to ensure capacity building through skills acquisition, as well as embark on innovative activities and programmes that will enhance the quality of lives of families and children of Nigerian Navy personnel and their relations.
Aside this, Hajia Nana Gambo disclosed that no effort will be spared in ensuring that education is given priority by making sure that NOWA Schools whether Primary or Secondary are continually upgraded and equipped so that they maintain the status of being among the best in the country.
The new NOWA President spoke on Saturday at the national secretariat of the Naval Officers Wives Association (NOWA) in Asokoro during the handing and taking over ceremony between her predecessor, Barr. Mrs Theresa Ibas and herself.
Hjajia Gambo said, “With a great sense of humility and gratitude, I want to thank the almighty God, President Muhammad u Buhari, my husband, Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo for making this day possible. I want to commend our mother, Barr. Mrs Theresa Ibas for a job well done as the President of NOWA. We will continue to keep your aspirations alive”.
“I feel honoured to be taking over as the 21st President of NOWA. I want to specially appreciate my husband who has always supported, loved and cared for me and our children. I say to him, we love you dearly and cannot asked for a better husband and father”.
To our NOWA family, I want to solicit for your support and cooperation to ensure that we take the association and welfare of members including families of Ratings to greater heights.
Highlight of ceremony was the unveiling of two special projects aimed at providing potable drinking water for two immunities who have suffered lack of drinking water for years.
The communities are Kaida Village in Gwagwalada Local Government Area of the Federal Capital Territory and Oyeniran in Dakwa Takwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
Earlier in her address, former NOWA President, Barr. Mrs Theresa Ibas congratulated her successor for assuming the mantle of leadership of NOWA saying, “I give thanks and adoration to almighty God for keeping all of us alive to see this day”.
She disclosed that the activities of NOWA as at today, went beyond the confines of Nigerian Navy formations and barracks.
“NOWA made tremendous contributions to education, health, charitable ventures, infrastructural and social services development well as economic empowerment.
“I am highly fulfilled to have served as the 20th President of NOWA and I am proud to say I am handing over a robust and focussed association to Hajia Nana Aisha Gambo. I wish her and all the NOWA family Fair winds and smooth sail in your future endeavours.
Mrs. Ibas used the occasion to present an award of NOWA Ambassador to Navy Commander Gambo, the administration officer of NOWA Secretariat whom she said had served about 4 NOWA Presidents with great commitment and diligence without any problems inspire of popular erroneous belief that women are always difficult to work with.
“He was accommodating, patient, respectful and he has managed the Secretariat as well as the different NOWA Presidents with vquarrel or misunderstanding. For these characteristics, I am awarding you the NOWA flag as NOWA Ambassador..
The ceremony was attended by a former DEPOWA and NOWA President, Mrs Pls Saad Ibrahim, representatives of the Wives of the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff and the wife of the Chief of Sir Staff as well as Zonal Coordinators of NoWA.
