Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum on Tuesday announced the donation of N10 Million Naira to recuperating soldiers fighting Boko Haram terrorists in the North East. Zulum added that the state government will continue to support the the Army and other security agencies with a view to carrying out their assignments unhindered.
The Governor made the disclosure at the Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, the Borno State Capital, venue of the Chief of Army Staff Eid- El Kabir Sallah Luncheon with troops of Operation Hadin Kai.
According to Governor, the donation is just a token by the state government to boost the morale of troops fighting insurgency in the state, he also said that the government will not relent in its efforts at partnering with the Army and other security agencies.
“Security is very important and security is everybody’s responsibility, the Borno government hereby announced the donation of N10 Million Naira to the recuperating gallant officers and men of the Nigeria Army”, Governor Zulum said.
The Governor who lamented the increasing number of ISWAP fighters on Nigeria territory said all hands must be on deck to collectively fight the Bok haram insurgency.
“We have started witnessing tremendous archivements in the area of fostering harmonious relationship between the Military and civilians ; this very important crusade is very essential at this very important and trying moment of increasing presence of ISWAP in our own territories.
Similarly, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. General Farouq Yahaya urged the troops of Operation Hadin Kai to remain apolitical and continue to discharge their duties professionally in the defence of father land and the Nigerian constitution.
COAS also assured that the Army will continue do all it can to make officers and men of the Nigeria Army cofortable in discharging their duties.
”It is important to re-iterate at this point that the welfare of my officers, soldiers and their families will continue to receive adequate attention under my watch.
“Our hospital facilities and services are being improved upon and I am ever determined to ensure the healthcare of personnel and their families both within and outside the Country.
”Those wounded in action will be adequately treated and their requirements such as wheelchairs, prothesis and other special vocational training will be provided.
” To our colleagues who have paid the supreme price, we shall continue to do our best to ensure the comfort of their families, through prompt payment of all their entitlements, including medical bills and school sponsorship of their children.
“It is my desire to provide them with the necessary requirements that will enhance their confidence and competence in order to return them fully to their prestigious roles in the military hierarchy.
“In this wise, I have approved the issue of Hilux vehicles as official cars to RSMs beginning with AHQ and AHQ Gar RSMs; and this will cascade down the ladder to the battalion RSMs in due course”.
”Similarly, I have authorised the construction of befitting tied down accommodation for RSMs and renovation of such existing structures to demonstrate my commitment in this endeavour.
The overall aim is to develop the individual soldier, provide him with relevant skills, competences and good leadership by his NCOs ( None Commission Officers ) and SNCOs (Seniour None Commission Officers) who he will aspire to emulate.
”I appreciate and commend you all, our gallant officers and soldiers, as I also urge you all to keep up the good works, ensure synergy with other Services, security agencies and all stakeholders”, the COAS said.
