Benue Killings: Abuja Ecclesiastical Bishops Condemn Mutilation of Human Beings by Rampaging, Demonic Terrorists.

The Bishops of the Catholic Ecclesiastical Province of Abuja have condemned the indefensible preference of animals over human life evidenced in the mutilation of human beings by ‘Rampaging, Demonic Terrorists’.

In a communiqué the end of their first plenary meeting in Markudi on Saturday, the Bishops warned that failure of the government to adequately protect life and property in the present circumstances will create an unfortunate situation where people will have to take alternative measures to defend themselves,

The communiqué jointly signed by the Bishops from FCT, Nasarawa, Kogi and Benue states, on the recent Killings in Benue state, the Catholic Bishops said, “We the Bishops of the Catholic ecclesiastical province Abuja met for the first plenary of the year 2018 at the pope John Paul 11 Pastorial Centre, Markudi, Benue state, Nigeria.

“After a deep and profound reflection over the persistent and unfortunate events happening in our country and especially the callous massacre of innocent citizens of Benue state and the killings in the other parts of the country, hereby issue the following communiqué.

“We condemn this callous act in its entirety and sympathize with the affected families of those who lost their lives over this period of time.

“Particularly the gruesome killings of January 2018 in Logo and Guma Local Government Area of Benue state.

“We reaffirm our strong believe that human life is sacred and must be respected and therefore condemn the indefensible preference of animals over human life evidenced in the mutilation of human beings by the rampaging, demonic terrorists.

“We call on the federal government and other related agencies to live up to the fundamental and constitutional responsibility of the protection of human life and property

“We particularly call on President Muhammadu Buhari to take more proactive measures to end this carnage and forestall its reoccurrence.

“We call on all relevant security agencies and other relevant bodies to live up to the responsibilities of their offices.

“Failure of the government to adequately protect life and property will create an unfortunate situation where people will have to take alternative measures to defend themselves, and that will be a disaster.

“We support the efforts of the Benue state government in finding a solution to this persistent crisis through the anti-open grazing law that calls for the establishment of ranches.

“We therefore call for sustained prayers and fasting, our veritable weapon against all principalities for the restoration of our land and this proclamation goes alongside the call for vigilance and self-defence.

“We commit our nation and province into the hands of our Lady of Perpetual Help.

The Bishops are His Eminence, Cardinal John Onaiyekan-Abuja, Most Revd. Anthony Adaji-Idah, Most Revd. Anselm Umorem-Abuja, Most Revd. Wilfred Anagbe- Markudi, Most Revd. Michael Apochi, Otukpo.
