10 Police Officers Allegedly Kidnapped in Kogi after bandit’s attack have returned to Base in Nasarawa – Kogi CP

The ten Police officers reportedly kidnapped by gunmen at Obajana, Kogi state on  Sunday by gunmen while returning from Osun State where they had particpated in Osun  election have been accounted for according to Kogi Police Command.

Reports earlier said some police personnel were returning from Osun State, where they had gone on posting as part of the police contingent in the just concluded governorship election in the state and were. kidnapped in Obajana area of the state.

“On July 17, 2022, about 11:05 a.m., information was received from the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Obajana that gunshots were heard along New By-Pass Road, close to Trailer Park, PTI Obajana.

The DPO immediately mobilised patrol teams to the scene, where they met one white 18-seater passenger bus with registration number: GWA 295 YR, driven by one Usman Abdullah with six occupants.

“The seven persons identified themselves as officers from Nasarawa State Police Command returning from the Osun governorship election.

“They narrated that their vehicle developed a mechanical fault, and while trying to fix the vehicle, armed men emerged from the bush and kidnapped 10 officers,”

An anti-kidnapping squad has reportedly been deployed to the area to track the criminals, it added.

However, the Kogi State Police Commissioner, CP Edward Egbuka has said that the ten police officers allegedly kidnapped while returning from the Osun State Governorship election have been accounted for.

Speaking on the issue, CP Egbuka explained that truly the convoy of the officers was attacked by the bandits.

He said that when they were attacked every officer escaped into the bush to avoid being kidnapped, however, at the end of the incident all the ten officers finally joined their colleagues in Nasarawa State.

The ten police officers were allegedly missing after an attack by gunmen at Obajana in Kogi on their way back from election duty in Osun.
