POLICE, CHINESE, UN HABITAT COLLABORATE AS ARASE FLAGS OFF 1004 HOUSING UNITS IN ABUJA.

POLICE, CHINESE, UN HABITAT COLLABORATE AS ARASE FLAGS OFF 1004 HOUSING UNITS IN ABUJA.

Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase on Monday said the Nigeria Police is a beneficiary of the numerous diplomatic shuttles embarked upon by President Muhammadu Buhari noting that the 1004 Police housing units for construction in Abuja is fallout of these efforts to address the housing needs of personnel.

Making the disclosure at the Ground Breaking of the NPF Housing project, the IGP said, though public-private partnership existed in the past, the “uniqueness of today’s (Monday) event however rests on the fact that this is the first time that International bodies will be collaborating with Nigeria Police for the purpose of addressing the housing needs of the personnel of the Force.

“This represents an increasing confidence of the international bodies in not just the Nigeria Police Force, but in the Federal Government. It is also pertinent to mention that this is reflective of the outcome of the series of diplomatic shuttles undertaken by Mr. President towards the enhancement of national security”.

He said the project is been undertaken by the NPF property development company in conjunction with Shelter Afrique and UN Habitat, which would lead to the construction of 25,000 units of similar low cost houses for the Police, beginning with 1004 in the Federal Capital.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in November 2015 and NPF would take delivery of the first batch in six months’ time, as the Chinese construction firm, China Kunming Engineering Company is already mobilized to site.

Emphasizing that this is another step towards enhancing the welfare orientation policing component of strategic Police plans under his leadership of the Police, IGP Arase said, it is one of the drive towards reforming and addressing the endemic challenges in the NPF, militating against optimal performance.

Commissioner of Police in charge of Cooperative Dorothy Gimba said the enviable project is anchored through a strategic partnership between the companies, is a social contract, undertaken by the IGP to make a difference in housing delivery.

The Vice President of the Chinese company Huang Haitao was present during the event, while the Director Kabir Yari represented African Regional Headquarters of UN Habitat.
