MILITARY ELEVATES 42 MAJOR GENERALS & EQUIVALENT.
The Army, Navy and Airforce Councils, all headed by President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the promotions of Forty-Two Major Generals, Rear Admirals and Air Vice Marshals in the Armed Forces with the Army producing 17 Major Generals, the Navy producing 11 Rear Admirals and the Airforce producing 14 Air Vice Marshals.
Also approved for promotion are about 190 Brigadiers General, Navy Commodores and Air Commodores (one-star Generals).
It was gathered that in the Army, some Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), some General Officers Commanding (GOC’s), some Directors at both the Defence and Services Headquarters, some erstwhile Brigade Commanders as well as officers serving in Military Training institutions benefitted from the exercise.
For the Nigerian Air Force, the 14 Air Vice Marshals (2-star Generals) promoted are Air Vice Marshal Onyemaechi Osahor, Chief of Aircraft Engineering at the HQ NAF, AVM Shehu Adamu, Director of Works at the Headquarters Nigerian Air Force, AVM Mohammed Usman, Director Air Intelligence at HQ NAF, AVM Muhammed Abdul-Wahab, Principal Air Staff Officer to the Chief of Air Staff, AVM Isiaka Amao, Commander 75 Strike Group Yola, and AVM John Baba, Commander 303 Flying Training School Kano.
Others are AVM Okechukwu Nttukogu, Commander 81 Air Maritime Group Benin, AVM Humprey Okpala, Directing Staff at the National Defence College, AVM Yekeen Ishola, Commander 203 Medium Airlift Group Ilorin, AVM Christain Dii, Director of Information Communication Technology at the National Defence College, AVM Sambo Usman, the Managing Director Nigerian Air Force Housing and Construction Company and AVM Auwal Muhammea, Commander 335 Base Services Group Kaduna.
Also promoted AVM’s are AVM Charles Otegbade, Director Search and Rescue, National Emergency Management Agency, AVM Ishaya Bukar, and Commander 333 Logistics Group Kaduna.
Over 100 Colonels were promoted to Brigadier Generals in the Army; the Navy promoted 21 Commodores while the Airforce promoted 26 Air Commodores, 22 Group Captains and 91 Wing Commanders.
Among the 26 elevated to the rank of Air Commodore are Group Captains are Gp Capt. Ubruth Uzezi, Emmanuel Udenyi, Aliyu Bello, Iboro Etukudo, Chiebonam Ozougwu, Abidemi Marquis, Abubakar Liman, Pius Oahimire, Kabiru Aliyu, Nkem Aguiyi, Sule Lawal and Paul Masiyer.
Others are Group Captains Isah Muhammad, Kurotimi Obidake, Dalhat Ladan, Adeniyi Amesinlola, Olagoke Ogunmola, Raheem Tijani, Obainana Imafidor, Framah Batnah, John Dibal, Mohammed Sini, Barisi Keenam, Sunday Ogba, Habib Adamu and Emma Enam.
Some officers one-star Generals promoted in Army and Navy are Brigadier General MS Ahmed, PGSO to Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Unokhua, Defence Intelligence Agency, Brigadier General KO Aligbe, Principal Staff Officer to Chief of Army Staff, , Brigadier General PTO Aro of Defence headquarters, Brigadier General A Fejokwu of Military Secretary Office, Brigadier General B Ipinyomi, Director, Army Archives and Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar, Director of defence Information.
Among the Navy are Commodore JD Akpan, Commodore Ibrahim Dewu, Commodore Kaoje, and Commodore M. Olotu.
Others include Commodore Olugbode-Fazaz, Commodore Kayode Olulowo, Commodore S Muhammad, Commodore I Ogalla and Navy Commodore Unurhiere.
A statement from the Airforce signed by Air Commodore Dele Alonge noted that recent promotions in the NAF are in line with one of the key drivers of the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar’s vision which is to promote and inculcate the core values of integrity, excellence and service delivery.
“As an annual exercise, the purpose of promotion is to encourage officers to rededicate themselves to assigned duties as well as the development of the Nigerian Air Force and the nation as a whole” it added.
