How Troops Jubilated when COAS touched down in Daura.

It was a joyous celebration and morale went sky high among troops, when the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai paid an operational visit to the Forward Operations Base (FOB) in Daura, Katsina state and disclosed that new welfare packages were on the way with a view to ensure troops commitment and dedication to tackling security challenges.

Recall that the troops had been in the thick of the onslaught against bandits and kidnappers terrorizing Birnin Gwari, Katsina and parts of Zamfara state.

During the visit on the 15th of August, the troops expressed happiness that the COAS left his office and cone to spend time with then in the bush to personally motivate them.

The ovation that followed the visit was so loud and unprecedented that troops attempted carrying the COAS and raising him shoulder high in appreciation of keeping in touch with soldiers at the grassroots but they were prevented from doing so.

Some soldiers could not hide their elation saying, “This COAS is trully a leader, in touch with the grass roots. Look at him despite his age, rank and position leading troops to one of the most hectic military exercises – push ups”.

One soldier said, “No wonder he is trully adored by both officers and men of the Nigerian Army all over”

On Buratai’s disclosure that boots and polish allowance for officers and soldiers would soon be implemented, an officer said, “You can also see why loyalty is 100 per cent because our welfare and wellbeing is topmost in his (COAS) mind. He personally interacts with soldiers, no matter the rank to know what they feel”.

During the visit, Lt Gen Tukur Yusufu Buratai commended the commitment and achievement of troops deployed at the Forward Operating Base for combating armed banditry, cattle rustling and kidnapping among other menaces during Operation Harbin Kunama III and ongoing Operation Hadarin Daji in the North Western part of Nigeria.

He also disclosed plans by the Nigerian Army to replicate the noble concept of ‘Super Camp’ in the region explaiming that its aim is projecting offensive patrols, raids, ambushes and other combat missions to contain the security threats occasioned by the activities of criminals elements.

The COAS maintained that provision of logistics to enable troops perform effectively remains his top priority.
