Following the fall of Sambisa Forest and the defeat of Boko Haram by the Nigerian Military, Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai has been awarded the African Leadership Magazine Award in recognition of the strategic and commanding roles he played in achieving the feat.
Several foreign countries particularly African countries had wondered why Nigerian military reputed to be one of the most daring during combat in many theatres of operations around the continent and the world, were being embarrassed by Boko Haram until Buratai assumed the saddle of command.
The Award which was presented to Gen. Buratai by former Ghanian President, Dr. John Draman Mahama at the Sandro Sun Hotel, South Africa was received by the General Officer Commanding 3 division (GOC), Nigerian Army, Major general Peter Dauke on behalf of the COAS.
