The governments of Nigeria and Turkey have agreed to partner together in the area of defence and security.
This decision was reached during a bi-lateral meeting between the Defence Minister of Nigeria Mansur Dan-Ali and his Turkish counterpart Mr. Nurettin Canikli held at Ministry of National Defence in Ankara.
The visit which is part of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to Turkey for D-8 meeting also agreed to sign three Memorandum of Understanding on Military Cooperation Agreement (MCA) Military Training Cooperation Agreement (MTCA) and Defence Industry Cooperation Agreement (DICA).
When ratified by parliaments of the two countries the agreement will enable the training of personnel in both country’s military institutions and joint military exercises.
Speaking at the occasion, Nigeria Defence Minister urged the Turkish government to support the present administrations efforts in promoting global peace and security.
In his response the Minister of National Defence Turkey Mr. Canikli thanked Nigeria for containing the Boko Haram insurgency and call for closer cooperation with Nigeria which share a lot of similarities with Turkey.
